When the night fell black
I spent too much time
at the window,
confronting my reflected self,
knowing you were out there
amongst it all, somewhere.
Change crept over us,
looming in the air like a candled scent
ready to weaken and age.
And then a flash of white
touched everything.
Life’s blunt edges paled away
and we were cradled,
in the fragranced flame
of one another,
well into that fated night.
